Off Northampton Shed

Having read the above book It is amazing the I also was an apprentice at Northampton Shed and worked with many of the people that Derek Mutton wrote about, including Archie Harris and Billy Egan. I started my apprenticeship in 1957 and completed it in 1963 thanks to both Billy and Gaffer Beasley. I worked on the railway for 52 years ending up as the Electrical Power Distribution Engineer for the East of England and Scotland. Having read the book I can answer some of the points that Derek was unsure of. My time at Northampton was enlightening especially working with the likes of Billy and Archie Thanks again for a wonderful book. Ps Archie was the meanest man I ever came across I had to run the through the shed and the iron foundry everyday avoiding both Billy and the Gaffer to get Archie a quarter ounce of Snuff and and quarter of Bluebird toffees from the Post Office for this I was given ONE toffee, There are many other stories but I do not have space here Please pass my thanks to Derek for a brillient book
